Coronavirus: Statement by Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, on guidelines to ensure supply and availability of medicines

On 8 April 2020, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, recorded a video message at the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium, on guidelines to ensure supply and availability of medicines.These guidelines aim to ensure that Europeans have access to affordable medicines during the coronavirus crisis. To this end, national governments are asked to lift any export ban on medicines and avoid stockpiling. 


In her statement, Ursula von der Leyen namely stressed the need for the pharmaceutical industry to reorganise its supply chain and the need to step up action against disinformation which can push citizens to stockpile or use the wrong medicines.
The objective is to provide transparent information about the available supply of medicines and help ensure that Europeans have the medicines they need.
