Infections rise to 506 and daily deaths from coronavirus rebound to 217

The diagnoses by PCR (the test that measures the active infection) and the deaths by covid-19 have been on the rise since Monday, according to the data made public this Thursday by the Ministry of Health.

The new cases in the last 24 hours have been 506, for a total of 229,540, 0.22% more than the previous day.

This figure represents 0.4% of the population of Spain, far from the 5% shown by the progress of the seroprevalence study that was known on Wednesday, which means that for every case that has been diagnosed there have been another 12.5 that have been left out of the official count.

This can be explained by the fact that up to phase 1 of the de-escalation, PCR has only been carried out on people with more serious symptoms who needed to be hospitalised at first and, later, on health professionals and people admitted to old people’s homes or their carers.

The daily deaths have been 217, 0.88% more than the previous day, which means that since the beginning of the spread of the virus there have been 27,321 deaths.
